Left Hand Tap

A left had tap as the name suggests is a special type of tap meant for people who are left handed. Unlike right handed taps which form the majority of the taps which can be purchased these left hand taps can be turned on and off with your left hand. This makes it easy for a left hand person to intuitively use the taps around his or her home. However, there are various types of left handed taps and because the majority of people are right handed these taps are also difficult to buy if you do not know where to get them from.

There are different types of taps which can be purchased these include:

  • Taps only for left hand individuals
  • Taps for both left and right handed individuals
  • Electronic taps for left hand people

Left hand tap with dual function

When you have both left and right handed people in a family it is important to install a tap which both types of people can use. A dual handed tap as it is called is something which can be used by both left and right handed people. These taps are easy to purchase and can found in most offline hardware stores and specialty plumbing stores. These taps can also be purchased in a number of different types which include the ‘twisting top’ type as well as the latest ones that just require that you lift up a handle to allow for the water to flow. But these taps tend to be slightly more expensive than conventional right handed taps.

Electronic left handed taps

Electronic left handed taps incorporate sensors which can sense a person’s hand prior to opening the water valve inside of the tap. The difference between the left and the right handed electronic version is that the sensors that sense the presence of a hand are placed to the left of the tap as opposed to the right. The dual version which is also a more expensive version of this tap has sensors on both ends. But because of the costs of both purchasing and installing these taps they are more suited for hotels, restaurants and other business as opposed to domestic use.

Installing a left hand tap

There are a few differences when it comes to installing and using a left hand tap, something which may require the assistance of a professional plumber. Often times the way in which the water flows into the tap is different so the plumbing will have to be configured according, this is especially the case when there is hot and cold running water, in the case of a left hand tap the hot water valve will need to be installed on the right as opposed to the left.

Buying a left hand tap
